At the November 21 meeting of the Village Board, Jack Jannarone was reappointed to a five-year term on the consolidated Zoning Board of Appeals. Jannarone, who currently leads the board as its chairman, was appointed by a 4-1 vote, with Deputy Mayor Dr. Melanie Guerrero voting no. She said she would like to see the position opened up to applications from the community.
In opening the agenda item, Mayor Joe D’Onofrio said Jannarone was “looking forward to continuing his community service”, and added “he’s very, very good at this”.
Guerrero said she agrees, but added “he’s served in that capacity for a while and shouldn’t we open it to other applicants?”
She continued: “These are important positions of authority, the public should be more involved.”
The mayor said there is also a seat coming available on the consolidated Planning Board, and that anyone interested in serving in that position should contact him.
In other matters of business from the meeting:
— The Board appointed a part-time water plant operator, Christopher Doak, at $25 an hour. While he has a full-time job elsewhere, he will assist at the Highland Falls plant on weekends.
— A bid for $23,500 was accepted to make sidewalk repairs on Main St., Muller Ave. and Schneider Ave.
— It was noted that 17 fluorescent fixtures in the Highland Falls Police Department would be replaced with LED fixtures for $2950 (by Mellon Electric); and a cast iron sewer line inside the Village Hall would be replaced for $4000 (Elias Plumbing & Renovations).
— Bills and claims in the amount of $347,291 were approved — $185,000 of that is the Ondaora Park work and $32,000 was Workers Comp insurance.
— Finally, the board okayed a ‘Right of Way Agreement’ with Scenic Hudson, for use to turn municipal vehicles around at the end of Regina Rd., so that private property can be avoided.
