July 4 not too far off

Wanted: a coordinator for a watermelon eating contest at Roe Park on July 4 and a coordinator for the Main St. bed races on July 3.

Anyone wishing to help with those fun community events is asked to attend the next meeting of the Highland Falls’ Fourth of July Committee, on Saturday, March 23 at 9:30 a.m. at Village Hall.

At the last meeting of the group, some of the necessary chores were divided up: selling 50/50 raffle tickets, arranging food vendors for Roe Park, and securing bands for the parade are all being handled by volunteers.

But, more community residents are needed to pick up some of the other tasks, Joe D’Onofrio, chairman of the committee said.

“We’ll have another great Fourth of July, as long as we get some more help in the planning.”

The holiday festivities are expected to again include several outdoor concerts, the annual Firecracker 5K, parade and more.
