Town & Village leaders met again

It was the second meeting of January

Highland Falls Mayor Joe D’Onofrio and Highlands Supervisor Bob Livsey — and others — met Monday morning to talk about a handful of local issues. The meeting was the second of the local leaders in January.

With them were  Town Councilman Joe DeWitt, Deputy Mayor Brian Aylward, Highland Falls DPW Supervisor John Jones, Highland Falls mechanic Tim Green, and Highlands Highway Superintendent Pat Patterson.

The meeting stemmed from a village request to occasionally borrow a backhoe from the town while they are in the process of getting a new one. D’Onofrio said that request was okayed, and added that in a related roads and grounds matter,  a town vehicle will be used to load salt into village  vehicles (at the shared salt pile) with a village DPW operator.

In other business from the meeting,  the mayor said he asked Livsey to allow town police officers to also work in the village; the supervisor said he would talk with THPD Chief Frank Pierri about the policy.

They also briefly discussed the possibility of the village presenting the town with a plan for the HFPD to patrol in Fort Montgomery.  D’Onofrio said Livsey agreed to look at a proposal if submitted.

They also talked about the use of the Highland Falls Senior Center, and the need for programs run from it to have insurance.

Finally, D’Onofrio and Livsey also followed up on two topics of recent discussion — land return and a hotel room tax. In both cases, the mayor said, the supervisor indicated a willingness to work together on those matters.
