Altagracia “Grace” Muiño

September 5, 1943—January 11, 2021

Formerly of Highland Falls, NY

Altagracia “Grace” Muiño, 77, formerly of Highland Falls, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her children in her Virginia Beach home on Monday, January 11, 2021 after a courageous cancer battle with Amyloidosis.

Grace was born on September 5, 1943 to Manuel Pacheco and Carmen Vazquez in Guanica, Puerto Rico.  After moving to New York, she met the love of her life, José Muiño, and they were married on April 23, 1960. They were blessed with four children:  Diana, José Jr, Ricardo, and Carmen Delilah. They raised their family in Highland Falls until their retirement in 2009.

Grace had a gift for sewing and tailoring. Her greatest pride was making her daughters’ wedding dresses, but she used her talents most regularly during her time at the West Point Tailor Shop – proudly making cadets’ uniforms for over 20 years.

Throughout her years working at West Point, Grace developed many friendships with the young cadets and opened her home for holiday meals for those who were unable to go home for the holidays. Grace was active in the Catholic Church – organizing the first Spanish Mass in Highland Falls and most recently starting a group for widows and widowers at her Catholic Church in Virginia.

Grace and Jose moved to sunny Florida after retirement where she enjoyed long walks on the beaches, dancing, bowling, and evenings with their new found friends.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Carmen; her beloved husband of 54 years, José; her brothers Fredo and Carlos, and sister Minda.

Grace is survived by her children: Diana (Joel Larson) of Littlefork, MN; José Jr. of Tampa, FL; Ricardo of Tampa, FL; Carmen Delilah (Jason Wieman) of Killeen, TX; grandchildren: Sarah Weisbrod (John); John (Dana) Larson; Jeremy Larson; Joseph Frank and Samantha Vargas; Michael David and Angelica Mia Muiño; and Katie Marie Weiss; Ricardo II; Alexander (Madeline) Wieman; Victoria, Samantha, Rebecca, and Yesenia Wieman.  Great grandchildren:  Attlee, Aibree, and Charli Larson; Noah, Ian, Addison and Payton Vargas; Easton Weiss; and Joshua Wieman; sisters: Aida, Rate and Doris; brothers Mino, Tony, and Justo; and many extended family members.

Services will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Highland Falls NY on Saturday, July 24, at 1:00 PM.  Following graveside services, join the family in celebrating Grace’s life and sharing memories at the Highland Falls Fire Hall.

In lieu of flowers, Grace’s family invites you to make a memorial gift to your local Catholic Church in her name or a memorial gift to the Amyloidosis Foundation to help find a cure:  https://www.amyloidosissupport.org/donations_form.html.
