The community is invited to again gather together at 11 a.m. on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day (Monday, Jan. 20) to march in memory of the slain Civil Rights leader.

In 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed the bill that named the third Monday in January as the official observance ‘Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday’.

Assemblyman Colin Schmitt presented a resolution to members of St. John’s AME Zion Church in Highland Falls during the church’s Black History Month history program on Sunday. It was a resolution which he co-sponsored, commemorating the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr and his contributions to the nation.

Despite bitter cold temperatures and a coating of ice over everything, a ‘Celebration and Commemoration’ service of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was held at St. Mark’s Baptist Church on Monday; about 20 people, including several local clergy, attended.
