Assemblyman Colin Schmitt presented a resolution to members of St. John’s AME Zion Church in Highland Falls during the church’s Black History Month history program on Sunday. It was a resolution which he co-sponsored, commemorating the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr and his contributions to the nation.

“Dr. King continues to inspire our nation and serve as an example for leaders at all levels to follow,” Schmitt said. “I think often of what Dr. King stated ‘Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice’. As an elected official this is part of my daily guiding principles. I thank Councilman King and Rev. Singleton of St. John’s AME Zion Church for allowing me to take part in the Black History Month program today and present this important legislative resolution honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King.”

Councilman Tyrone King thanked Schmitt for co-sponsoring the resolution commemorating the life of Rev. King and for presenting it to the church.

“Martin Luther King, Jr. serves as an example for all in our community and this recognition is important to ensure his memory is rightful honored in the State of New York.”

St. John’s Rev. Lieta Singleton also was appreciative of Schmitt.

“I thank Assemblyman Colin Schmitt for attending our black history program and for helping recognize Martin Luther King and his many contributions to our national history,” she said.
