Stephen “Steve” Baran

November 23, 1944—September 4, 2022

Kissee Mills, MO

c  He was born on November 23, 1944, in Portage, PA, to the late Stephen T. Baran and the late Margaret (Salsgiver) Baran. He moved to Highland Falls with his family in 1959. After he graduated from the Highland Falls highschool, in 1962, he joined the Air Force, where he proudly served his country for 4 years. Upon returning home, he began a 30+ year career with the Highland Falls post office. After retiring, he became a truck driver and worked for Webster Trucking, Newburgh, NY, where he met his future wife, Ruth Whitman. They later moved to Missouri, where he worked for O&S Trucking, and they traveled the country together. Deciding they  wanted to settle down, Steve went to work for the Taney County Sheriff’s dept., as a Corrections Officer, until he retired in 2011. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, of 22 years. His daughters: Tamberly Rafferty and her husband Martin, of Plattekill, NY; Melissa Holsinger and her husband Torry, of Havre,MT, and Jennifer Martin and her husband Dustin, of Ozark, MO. Also by his daughter in law, Catherine Baran, of Interlochen, FL.  Steve was blessed with 5 grandchildren: Heather, Andrew, Brittany, Brian and Sarah, as well as 3 great-grandchildren: James, Abigail, and Mallory. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Baran and his wife, Regina, of Deltona, FL.  Also by many extended family members. He will be missed by all.   He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Margaret Baran, and his only son, Steven C. Baran. He will be laid to rest on September 17, 2022, at 11:00 am, in a graveside ceremony at Moriah Cemetery, in Blue Knob,PA.  Arrangements are being handled by the Matthew Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., in Portage, PA.  Online condolences may be made at www.decortfh.com.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name, to the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy Ann McGivern

February 14, 1932—September 13, 2022

Dorothy passed away peacefully on the morning of September 13th, 2022, at the age of 90. The daughter of Kate and Francis Duffy, Dorothy was raised in Queens, NY. She was the youngest of 6 children. She spent most of her adult life living in Fort Montgomery and enjoyed some later years in Rockland County.  Dorothy enjoyed doing puzzles, watching the Yankees, and playing pretend with her great-grandchildren. Always quick with a smart comment or joke, Dorothy would often surprise friends and family with her wit.  

Dorothy is predeceased by both of her parents and siblings Jimmy, Johnny, Peggy, and Kitty. She is survived by her brother Francis Duffy (Bridie), daughter Eileen Searles (Drew), granddaughters Nichole Langley (Josh) and Bryanna Torino (Ronnie), and great-grandchildren Kallie Ann and Ronnie, III. 

In her memory, the family asks that donations be made to the Town of Highlands Ambulance Corps.
