As school starts, BOE busy

Board met on August 25, September 1

The Board of Education dealt with quite a few personnel matters at two recent meetings. 

On August 25:

— The board accepted the resignation of Highland Falls Intermediate School Assistant Principal Nicole Gallardo, as of Sept. 9.

— Two full-time secondary level special education teaching positions were created. Hired to fill these and other special education positions were Candace Walters, Dana Ford, Margaret O’Rourke Ford and Dawn Kilgore.

— The resignations of HFIS Math Teacher Samantha Estey; Teacher Aides Stacey Venzel, Jennifer Cotter  and Gabriela Valladares; and Monitor Polixeni Magonis were accepted.

— Kelley-Anne Lonergan was appointed as a social worker.

— Teachers that were hired include Giacomo Fortunato (art), Jessica Mark (elementary), Galia Kisiova (secondary math), Stacey LoCascio (secondary math), and Regina Pegg (leave replacement biology/living environment).

— Julie Henrickson was hired as a full-time secretary in O’Neill’s guidance office. Retired O’Neill main office secretary Catherine Clark was re-hired on a per diem basis for up to 90 days. 

— Teacher aides that were hired include Giovanna Truncale, Kendra Moulton and Lisa Buchheim.

On September 1:

— Dawn Lent resigned as a school secretary and was rehired as the executive secretary to the superintendent of schools at a salary of $55,000. She was also appointed as the district’s Records Access (FOIL) officer (no stipend). 

In addition, at both meetings, the board appointed substitute teachers and custodians, extra-curricular advisors and coaches.
