Meet authors Jamiyl and Tracy-Ann Samuels

“Since 2018, authors Jamiyl and Tracy-Ann Samuels have spread awareness for supporting children with autism through their children’s books. As the parents of a child on the autism spectrum, they have advocated on behalf of this community with respect to access to education and services, anti-bullying, interfamily communications and social dynamics. The Amazingly Sensational Kids (T.A.S.K.) book series, The Amazingly Awesome Amani and Sensationally Super Sandy, are inspired by their son Trey’s courageous journey as an autistic child navigating the (sometimes harsh) realities of life through his vivid imagination. Suitable for toddlers up to age 12, T.A.S.K. seeks to educate and entertain through the creation of informed written content, film, music, public speaking, and other media platforms. Our T.A.S.K. is to use Transparency, Advocacy, Sensitivity, and Knowledge in all of our endeavors to bring forth Truth, Accountability, Service, and Kindness.”

That paragraph is from the website of authors Tracy-Ann and Jamiyl Samuels, who will be at the Highland Falls Intermediate School from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, January 29.

The event is hosted by the West Point Spouses Club, along with community partners HF-FMCSD, ACS, Blue Star Families. It’s being promoted by the Town of Highlands Recreation Department and the newly-created special needs support group for local families.

Families are encouraged to attend — there will be sensory play activities, therapy dogs and more specifically for children. Great resources and vendors will also be on-site for parents.

The New York based authors offer profound insights into their parenting experiences with their children.  In addition to The Amazingly Awesome Amani and The Sensationally Super Sandy they will also discuss their newest release, “Where’s My Daddy?” a resource for parents to help children through loss and separation.

After speaking, the Samuels will stay for a book signing.  Blue Star Families will be providing free copies of the Samuels’ books to the first 45 families. Books and merchandise will be available to purchase as well.

The speaking event is followed by activities and an opportunity to visit with participating community vendors. This unique event is a prime chance for caregivers to build a network and learn about local resources.
