Highland Falls’ Roe Park to reopen

It will cost the Village of Highland Falls some overtime, but the entire Roe Park area will be reopened to the community this weekend, including the playground and bathrooms.

“Both the bathrooms and playground area will be sanitized daily,” Mayor Joe D’Onofrio said Monday, “and we’ve purchased mounted automated hand sanitizer machines to hang in two places at the park.”

He said that a village DPW employee will be brought in on weekends to keep up with the sanitizing of the playground and bathrooms, using a new backpack unit.

The mayor said several other steps have been taken to help keep residents from spreading Coronavirus — some tables that are typically under the gazebo have been moved outside of it so that those under the roof could be spaced out better. He asked that no one move the tables from where they have been placed.

The basketball court remains closed at the park, but not due to virus concerns, but because it is being renovated.

The pool was set to open this week, Recreation Director Aaron Falk said this week, with new rules in place.

According to the Orange County Department of Health permit for the pool, the maximum size of any single group of people on the premise or in the water is restricted to 10 or fewer individuals; however, there may be more than one group as long as they are able to be separated by at least six feet; social distancing requirements must be maintained, and facial covering requirements apply.
