Juneteenth commemorated here

“I’ve got to admit, I never heard of Juneteenth growing up.” That was the confession of Highlands Councilman Tyrone King on Saturday morning as he hosted the community’s fourth annual Airman Laura Lanier Juneteenth march and ceremony in Memorial Park.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Sheboy recently announced that James I. O’Neill High School was one of four schools in Orange County and one of 234 public high schools in the state to be recognized as a New York State Education Department “recognition school”.

The Highland Falls’ Intermediate School’s ‘Sunshine Club’ collects money from it’s members throughout the school year and then donates it at the end of each year.
