Gas line work, paving starts soon

A dozen village streets will have work done this summer

In the weeks ahead there will be some minor parking and traffic adjustments that many Highland Falls residents have to make as Central Hudson gas line replacement work begins, followed by paving.

Mayor Joe D’Onofrio said this week that 12 village streets are about to have work done on them.

“This is a big project, and we ask residents to bear with us as the work is done,” he said.

Central Hudson will work on Parry Ave., the bottom of Homestead Ave. and Drew Ave (from Church St. to Main St.) first, starting in the weeks ahead. That will be followed by paving of those roads by a private contractor.

The mayor said that residents of those streets who need to can use the Senior Citizens Center parking lot during the roadwork.

Then, after the Independence Day holiday — somewhere around July 8, the mayor said — Central Hudson work will take place on Main St. from Thayer Gate to Mountain Ave. A significant project, that work will also be followed by the paving of that same segment of Main St.

Central Hudson will also be doing service line and main work on: Center St., South St. and West St. Once the utility work is done, the village will be paving those roads.

D’Onofrio said Central Hudson is replacing about 2600 feet of gas lines in Highland Falls — the whole project is expected to take about 12 weeks.

There is no Central Hudson work planed on the following streets, but the village will be paving: the dead end of Mearns Ave. to Berry Hill, all of Prospect St., Schneider Ave., Villa Parkway from Main St. to Laurel Lane, and the dead end of Sweezy Ave.

D’Onofrio said the village will be working in tandem with Central Hudson — “we’ll be right behind them to pave as they finish their work,” he said.
