Watch for lots of paving!

Village set to work on 13 streets this summer

With the help of a significant grant obtained by former Senator Bill Larkin, a grant obtained by former Congresswoman Sue Kelly, grant money arranged by Senator James Skoufis, and a deal with Central Hudson, the village expects that some 13 streets will get new pavement this summer.

Mayor Joe D’Onofrio said the most significant project will be on Main St., between Thayer Gate and Cozzens Ave., where both new blacktop and new sidewalks will be going in after Central Hudson lays a new gas main under Main St. and new lateral lines to businesses. Then, paving will continue to Mountain Ave. Some sidewalk repair will also be done between Cozzens Ave. and Mountain Ave.

The utility company will do the gas work, and then turn the refurbishment of the streets over to the village, along with the funds to do so. The village has obtained several grants for that sidewalk replacement, and is having the engineering work done for that project right now.

That’s the way it’s going to work on several other streets, too, including South St., Parry Ave. and Homestead Ave.

Mearns Ave. is set to be repaved with a combination of that ‘Sue Kelly money’, as the mayor calls it (a combination of funds from several old or already completed projects), and Central Hudson repairs.

Other streets expected to get a new surface are: Prospect St., a portion of Center St., Schneider Ave., and Villa Parkway from Main St. to Laurel Lane. A portion of Drew Ave. — from Church St. to Main St. — is also expected to be paved.

The village will use whatever area paving company wins Orange County’s bid process this year for the work, and the mayor said the various jobs will take place from the summer through early fall.
