Final sports season of the 2018-19 year has come to an end
The spring sports season is always special, O’Neill High School Principal Debbie Brand told an auditorium full of athletes and their parents on Monday evening. Perhaps the main reason for that, she said, is because it marks the end of another year where the athletes have been working hard in not just one, but often two or three sports.
“They’ve worked all year to get to this point, and that has shown to be true in a lot of the successes that our students have had, both individually and as teams” she said. She praised the students for their accomplishments not only on the fields, but also in the classroom.
The Spring Sports Awards are the first of several awards ceremonies that will be held in the weeks ahead at the school.
Athletic Director Debbi Crowe also spoke at the ceremony, and praised her student athletes for their accomplishments, before turning the awards presentations over to coaches.
Crowe listed the teams which earned scholar-athlete awards — varsity baseball, girls varsity golf, boys’ and girls’ varsity lacrosse, boys’ and girls’ varsity track, boy’s varsity tennis; and boys’ and girls’ crew.
She also noted that the boy’s lacrosse team finished as Section 9 champions, and the individual athletes who were Section 9 champions — Carl Tyce, Tony Njoga, Jacob Schools, Steven Craig, Jadon Spain, Kyle Salva, Josh Baskerville, Asher Spain, Jason Corado-Aguirre, Sean Conover, Samuel Benson, Victor Ferreira, Leah Richardson, Elinor Lemler, Aidan Smith and Angie Grunert.
