May 1 was West Point Day at the Capitol
Senator James Skoufis and Assemblyman Colin Schmitt paid tribute to a group of cadets from the U.S. Military Academy during the 67th annual West Point Day on Wednesday, May 1, held in the State Capitol in Albany.
A group of cadets, along with Colonel Mark Bieger, and other officers from West Point were honored in the Senate and Assembly chambers, for their inspiring commitment and desire to serve our nation.
“The U.S. Military Academy is an unrivaled institution of tremendous educational, historical, and military significance,” Skoufis said. “The cadets of West Point are our future leaders who will bravely serve for the safety and betterment of our country. These cadets truly embody selflessness and I thank them for their commitment and desire to protect our nation.”
Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said, “As the daughter and sister of veterans, I am proud to welcome the cadets and educators of West Point and thank them for their commitment to ‘duty, honor, country.’ I thank Senator Skoufis for organizing a successful 67th West Post Day.”
Schmitt added, “It’s a distinct honor to represent the U.S. Military Academy in the Assembly. West Point is the nation’s premier military academy and institute of higher education so it is fitting that today the state legislature continued its tradition of recognizing cadets and all members of the Long Gray Line who have dedicated themselves to service to our nation.”
Skoufis and Schmitt sponsored a legislative resolution in their respective chambers honoring West Point. They paid tribute to the cadets present from across the state accompanied by various senators and assemblymembers.
