New format for water bills
Highland Falls Water customers may have noticed that their recently received blue water bills were a new format than what they were used to. That new format, and some of the information it contains, Village Clerk Gina Taylor said this week, has caused a few people to overpay their bills.
The bills have the total amount due on both the top, and bottom ‘payment coupon’. That amount is what follows the ‘If paid on or before 5/31/19’ line. The following line, she noted, reads ‘If paid after 5/31/19’ and is for those who pay their bills late. In the past, bills didn’t have the ‘late’ payment amount written on them.
“We’ve had several people come in to pay their bills, with their checks already written out. In a couple cases, they just glanced at it and wrote the amount of the late payment,” she said. “We just want people to look at their bill closely before writing the check.”
Sewer bills go out soon, Taylor added, and the format has been slightly changed so the current amount due is more prominent.
The new format also shows each customer’s water usage history, so they can compare this year’s usage to previous years. That can help in detecting leaks in a home, officials said.
