West Point-Town of Highlands Farmers Market manager Karen Parashkevov will be at both the April 16 Highlanders Senior Citizens meeting (1-2 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center) and the April 17 Community Forum (6:30-7:30 p.m. at The Center) to talk about how the local farmers market will be participating in the 2019 Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) this season.
The New York State FMNP consists of two programs: the Women, Infants and Children Farmers Market Nutrition Program (WIC FMNP) and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). Those who are eligible for these programs are provided checks to redeem for fresh, local fruits and vegetables at participating farmers markets and farm stands. The certificates can’t be used at any other vendors at the market.
Women who are pregnant, postpartum, or breastfeeding, and children up to age 5 enrolled in WIC are eligible to receive FMNP benefits. Also, seniors who are aged 60 and over and are income eligible can apply.
Parashkevov will have information on how to apply for the benefits at both of the meetings.
