Jeff Laino, a representative of the New York Power Authority (NYPA), will be at the April 8 meeting of the Town Board to talk about a possible upgrade to energy efficient LED streetlights in Fort Montgomery.
The town has 167 lights, Councilman Richard Sullivan said, and NYPA’s proposal shows a savings of over $25,000 annually in electric bills should the town make the move.
While there is still much to be discussed, Sullivan said Monday, he recently toured Clarkstown at night, and talked to town officials about their change to LED lights — “they’re very happy with how they look and they recognized savings instantly.”
“But,” Sullivan continued, “I don’t want to make it sound like its too good to be true, so we need to do our research.”
It’s not a new idea in either the town or Village of Highland Falls — former Village Trustee Bob Mellon and former Town Councilman Bill Edsall had both done work on the topic before losing their board seats.
