Town opened bids for sewer plant upgrades

Expect quick action on project

On March 13, the Town Board opened bids for its upcoming major Water Treatment Plant project, a project which will provide long-needed mechanical upgrades to the plant. The Town Board has been working to get the $2.4 million project underway since 2014.

Much of the project will be funded via a $700,000 grant from the state’s Empire Development Corporation, the rest will be through low-interest loans.

There were three bids received on the general contracting portion of the project, and one for the electrical contracting portion, Supervisor Bob Livsey said.

He and the Town Board are expecting to act quickly on awarding the bids, he said.

The lone electrical bid was from Ray Pantel Electric of Middletown, for $647,000.

The three general contracting bids were from TAM Enterprises in Goshen for $2,292,000; SpectraServ in South Kearney, NJ for $2,719,000; and Eventus Construction Co. of Amawalk, NY for $3,498,000.

Livsey said the board is meeting in executive session on Thursday of this week (on the Long Pond matter) and may decide to award bids then, or may award bids at the regular board meeting on Monday, March 25.

At the board’s last meeting (March 11), it was also noted that project engineer Al Fusco has asked for an additional $47,000 in payment for “work outside the scope of the project”, Attorney Justin Rider said. The board will need to decide on that matter soon, as well.

Engineering costs on the project were planned as part of the overall cost, totalling $260,000 ($10,000 in pre-project planning, $150,000 for design work, and $100,000 during the construction phase of the project).

It was noted that there were contingency funds built into the project funding package.
