Action on engineers, Dial-A-Bus
At the March 11 meeting of the Town Board watch for two decisions to be made.
The first is regarding hiring an engineering firm to represent the town. For the past several years, the board has hired engineers per job, instead of annually for “general engineering services”, Supervisor Bob Livsey said at the Feb 25 meeting of the Town Board. But recently they sent out a request for proposals for an engineering firm to represent the town in all of 2019.
Three firms responded: Fusco Engineering, Inc. in Middletown (this firm is currently representing the town on its Sewer Plant expansion project); McGoey Hauser & Edsall Consulting Engineers of New Windsor; and Lanc & Tully of Goshen.
“We’ll look over their proposals and at the next meeting try to decide on someone to be the town engineer,” Livsey said.
Secondly, the board must decide if it is going to keep the current Dial-A-Bus after the town receives a new one this year. At the Feb. 25 meeting the board approved an agreement with Orange County to accept a new bus — it will cost the town $1.
When the board first found out the town would get a new bus this year, Councilman Tyrone King proposed they keep the old one for use in transporting senior citizens to events in the area, etc. Several issues came up, however, including a shortage on drivers and fuel, maintenance and insurance costs.
“Let’s table this until the next meeting,” the supervisor said, “but then we need to decide.”
