Welcomed by Skoufis and Schmitt
ALBANY — Assemblyman Colin Schmitt and Senator James Skoufis both paid tribute to a group of cadets from the U.S. Military Academy during the annual West Point Day on Thursday, March 24, held in the State Capitol in Albany.
A group of cadets and officers from West Point were honored in the Senate and Assembly chambers for their dedication, commitment, and desire to serve our nation faithfully.
The day’s festivities kicked off with a private breakfast, followed by a formal presentation of cadets within the Senate chamber during the morning’s session. Senator Skoufis introduced a resolution on the floor in honor of West Point Day which was unanimously adopted, and the cadets later enjoyed a private lunch, where they were each presented with a certificate of merit.
“The men and women who have chosen to join West Point’s ranks in service to our nation are some of the finest citizens among us,” Skoufis said. “I was honored to welcome them to the Capitol and to share in this joyous tradition. These cadets represent the bright future of American diplomacy and strength. As their representative in the State Senate, I will never lose sight of their commitment or their sacrifices.”
Schmitt said: “It is my honor and distinct privilege to represent the United State’s Military Academy at West Point in the New York State Assembly. West Point is our nation’s most significant and exceptional military academy, exemplified by the Academy’s fantastic cadets. I am proud to continue the tradition of recognizing West Point cadets in Albany at the State Legislature’s Annual West Point Day. These cadets will go on to be our nation’s leaders, protecting our nation at home and abroad, ensuring continued freedom for all. We thank them for their dedication, and today we show our appreciation for their commitment to service.”
West Point’s long and decorated history along the Hudson River dates back to the American Revolution. Conceived by President Washington, West Point stands as a beacon of duty, honor, and country, and has launched the careers of some of America’s finest military and civilian leaders.
