Pertains to seniors and volunteers
The Town Board will start its Monday, Jan. 22 meeting with two public hearings. Both will “modestly” amend exemptions for those who serve as volunteers for the fire departments and ambulance corps, and certain senior citizens and disabled residents.
For the volunteers, it will change the amount of time they must serve before getting a town tax exemption from five to two years. For seniors the proposed law would amend the income levels needed in order to qualify for the exemption.
The hearings will begin at 7 p.m. that night, in the Town Hall Courtroom. It will be followed by a regular business meeting.
It was at the January 8 meeting the board scheduled the hearings. In other business from that session:
— The board hired two part-time employees to work for the Recreation Department at winter basketball league games.
— Supervisor Bob Livsey noted that the town has paid $269,925 in bills in recent weeks. That included: $44,797 to NYS Municipal Workers Comp; $9478 in legal services; $16,046 and $32,752 to Rockland County Solid Waste; $4129 to Global Montello for diesel fuel; $9508 to O&R for electric; $11,302 to TAM for a sewer pump rebuild; $8138 to Chemung for the installation of guide rails; and $42,760 to various companies for health, dental, and vision for employees.
