Barbara J. Woodard

July 5, 1935—December 25, 2023

Highland Falls, NY

Barbara J. Woodard (Lewis), age 88, affectionately known as “Nan” to many, passed away at Yorktown Assisted Living Residence, Cortlandt, NY on December 25, 2023.  She was a resident of Highland Falls, NY, all of her life.

Barbara was the daughter of the late Edmund and Anne Lewis of Highland Falls, NY.  She was married to the late Robert C. Woodard, Sr.

Barbara worked at the Thayer Hotel as a maid for 15 years and then at the Dept. of Engineering and Housing, West Point, NY, as a custodial worker, where she retired in 1993.  Barbara was a big Army football fan and enjoyed watching the games on TV and hearing the cannons go off when they scored!

“Nan adjusted well to life at her daughter Kathy’s house in Ft. Montgomery, after moving all the way from Highland Falls in 2015.  You could find her walking around the neighborhood, waving and stopping to chat a bit with the neighbors.  She settled in nicely as the new Chief, neighborhood watch of Bridge Terrace!  She was a lover of Diet Pepsi, party mix chips, double stuffed Oreos, all things candy, scratch offs, Little Richie’s wings, and King Buffet!  In the summer, even at 85 years young, you could find her on the deck laying in the sun getting that ‘perfect tan’.  She enjoyed our yearly “drop off in Virginia” where we would meet Linda and Mike so she could stay with them in Florida during the winter months.  Nan loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly.”

In July 2021 Mom moved into Yorktown Assisted Living Residence in Cortlandt, NY.  There she met the most wonderful staff and residents who helped her adjust to her new digs.  She loved the daily activities there, especially bingo and pokeno.  “Barbara was the loudest resident to call Bingo!”  She will forever be at their bingo and pokeno tables in spirit!   The family would like to thank all the staff and residents of Yorktown Assisted Living for the loving care and fun times given Mom before her passing.  Thank you for tying her shoes, putting her earrings in, getting her sweet treats whenever she wanted them, and for being her ‘family’ when we weren’t there.

She is survived by her children Linda (Mike) Christoff, Crestview, Florida; Kathy (Jim) Ripa, Ft. Montgomery; and Barbara Sullivan, Highland Falls; her grandchildren Michael (Jodie), Dustin Christoff (fiancée Kelley), Ashley O’Dell (Andrew); Brandi & Jimmy Ripa, and Brian Sullivan; 2 great grandchildren Dana & Brooke O’Dell; her loving sister Berenece Kelly, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, and her son, Robert C. Woodard, Jr, as well as her siblings Shirley Dean, Rowie Pond, Patsy Pastin, Edna Eynon and Ed Lewis.

Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory, in Middle Hope, NY. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
