Dorothy Hazel Nevling of Highland Falls, NY passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Friday, October 27, 2023 at the age of 87. Known to those who loved her as “Mom,” “Nanny”, “Grandma Mazie”, “Dottie”, “Mazie” and “Aunt Dot”, her faith, sense of humor and fiercely independent spirit carried her through life’s ups and downs with a sassy smirk on her face.

Born January 19, 1936 in Warren, Rhode Island, she was preceded in death by her parents: Mary Tavares and Ira B. Nevling; her first husband: Louis Nicoletti; second husband: Norman Robert “Bobby” Tompkins; sister: Sandra Markham; brother: Arthur “Artie” Nevling Sr.; niece: Geraldine Nevling; and nephew: Arthur “Artie” Nevling Jr. She was also predeceased by her loving kitty, Tinkerbell, whom she, wholeheartedly, adored and cherished.

In addition to raising her family fulltime, Dorothy worked part time as a Banquet Hostess for Scivoletto Catering in Peekskill, NY and for the Cortland Colonial Restaurant and Ballroom in Cortlandt, NY. She was a past member of the women’s auxiliary for the Fort Montgomery NY, Cortlandt NY, and Buchanan NY Fire Departments. Dorothy was an avid New York Yankees fan. She thoroughly enjoyed her many Christian retreats with De Colores in Ossining, NY. She loved to garden and took great pleasure in her many beautiful house plants.

Dorothy is survived by her 4 loving children: daughters Hazel Nicoletti (partner Michael Tomko), Vicky Nicoletti Stevens (husband Anthony Stevens), Donna Nicoletti Doyle (husband Brian F. Doyle), and son Wayne Tompkins (wife Marzena Tompkins); her 3 nieces and one nephew: Debby Bleakley Warren, LouAnn Bleakley Perlman, Brian Bleakley, and Bernadine Nevling Hengst; her 13 Grandchildren: Vincent Spinola, Nicole Persons, Crystal Peace, Tara Newhook, Agnes Bathrick, Brittany Wade, Michael Dylan Pitcher, Diana Tompkins, Brian E. Doyle, Joshua Doyle, Savannah Pitcher, Kelly Tompkins, and Kathryn Tompkins; 14 Great Grandchildren: Jospeh Nicoletti, Destiny Spinola, Cody Pitcher, Malachi Roschmann, Brianna Pitcher, Jazmin Roschmann, Micah Roschmann, Emmett Wade, Kadence Newhook, Anniah Wade, Elena Paniagua, Quentin Newhook, Johnathon Hoffman, and Tejahri Nicoletti; one great-great grandchild: Noelani Spinola; and by her loving partner of over 20 years, Alexander Baisley.
