Charles “Chick” La Forge, 96, of Bradenton, FL passed away Monday, March 13, 2023 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY.
Born in Highland Falls, NY, he was the son of Herbert and Elsie La Forge.
He was a graduate of Highland Falls High School and attended NYU in New York City.
During WW II, he served in the US Army. In 1952, he married Marie O’Neill and they shared 49 years of marriage until her passing in 2001. For several years, Chick and Marie were snowbirds to Bradenton, FL prior to moving to the Mt. Vernon Community in Bradenton as permanent residents in 1992.
In earlier years, he worked for the Highland Falls Water and Highway Department. He retired from the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY where he served as the Superintendent of Public Works and then worked for Star Expansion & the Storm King Arts Center.
Chick enjoyed bowling, tennis, shuffleboard and spending time with family.
His brothers Bernard and George La Forge pre-deceased him.
Survivors include his children Lynda Vincent of Dover Plains, NY, Robert (Suzy) La Forge of Houston, TX and Michael (Kim) La Forge of Copake, NY; five grandchildren to whom he was known as “PA”: Andrea (Daniel) Freeman, Colin (Jennifer) La Forge, Christopher (Lynn) La Forge, Megan La Forge, and Sean La Forge; four great-grandchildren Bennett and Emery Freeman, Emerson and Brooks La Forge as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at the Ss. Peter & Paul the Apostles Church, 2850 75th street West, Bradenton, FL.
