Willie Daniels, MSG (Ret)

Willie Daniels was born on January 23, 1921, to Frank and Annie Daniels in Mobile, Alabama; he was their only child. He received his high school diploma upon graduation in 1938. He was active in his church as a young boy, and he enjoyed playing baseball, fishing and swimming with his friends. He was an excellent baseball pitcher, known to pitch a fast ball, and as an adult played this position for varying military leagues, having rejected a contract to play professional Minor League Baseball.
Willie Daniels passed away on October 14, 2022, to join his beloved wife in eternity. He was also preceded in eternal rest by his youngest son Tyron, and he leaves behind his other children: Barbara Daniels-MD; Gloria (Daniels) & Jesse Moss, Jr., M.D.- TX; Willie Daniels, Jr. & Louise-TX; Anta (Daniels) Chapoteau-TX; and Ben Daniels-NY. He also leaves behind many loving grandchildren (11), great-grandchildren (19), and great-great-grandchildren (6) who lovingly called him “Pop-Pop.”
Willie Daniels was drafted into the US Army on September 5, 1942, and retired on March 1, 1973, as a Master Sergeant. He began his 30-year career at Fort Benning, Georgia and had one very brief assignment in France and a few other brief stateside assignments: Camp Hill, VA; Fort Belvoir, VA; Walter Reed Medical Center, Washington, D.C.; Wildwood Station, AK; and a permanent assignment at the USMA at West Point, NY where he had been assigned twice. First, he served from 1946 through 1956 and again from 1959 until he retired. During his second assignment, MSG. Daniels served as an Enlisted Aide to 6 different Superintendents of the USMA.
MSG. Willie Daniels had been awarded the following decorations: Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), and National Defense Medal with one oak leaf cluster.
A wake will be at Hogan’s Funeral home on December 2, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Edlyn Rae Hynes

Ms. Edlyn Rae Hynes, age 87, of Clayton, NC passes away surrounded by loved ones on November 27, 2022. A graveside Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2023 at the West Point Cemetery in New York, where she will be laid to rest with her husband Jack.
Edlyn was born on June 17, 1935 in Denver, Colorado to the late Eddie and Maxine Vogel. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John “Jack” Hynes, brother, Richard “Dickie” Vogel. She was an Army wife and worked at West Point PX, Commissary and the Central Energy Plant where she retired in 1995. Edlyn was an avid bowler who loved to travel and crochet and be surrounded by her loyal dog companions KimiSue, Skoshi, Pearl and Diesel.
Surviving includes her six children, Laurie Kahele and husband Joe, Lynne Disciglio and husband Joe, Walter “Wally” Hynes and wife Pam, Lana King, Lisa Turner and husband Jeff, Leslie Guido, nieces Jean Scott and John, Pat Calogero and husband Bill, Kit Vogel and Kim Elkins; twelve grandchildren, Jason Kahele, Justin Kahele, Nalani Kahele Aga, Jessica Sousa, Tiffany Haydel, Jackie Disciglio, Joseph Disciglio, Jeremy Stultz, Jennifer Proctor, Tyler Hynes, Julie Zimmer and Brett Turner; twenty great grandchildren, Kapono Kahele, Kanaloa Kahele, Ka’ahea Kahele, Jeri Madriaga, Olivia Sousa, Owen Sousa, Liam Haydel, Kaylin Pazoga, Riley McVeigh, Ryan Jack McVeigh, Ava Disciglio, Eloise Proctor, Sydney Lagle, Savannah Zimmer, Sadie Zimmer, Jolene Turner, Mick Turner, Kawika Aga, Keanu Aga and Kiana Aga.
