Menzo Mims, Jr.

Menzo, Jr. was the son of the late Menzo, Sr. and Lillie Ruth (Laster) Mims.

He was born on September 20, 1956, at West Point, New York. Menzo was a Highland Falls youth counselor for the Highland Falls recreation program while in high school and served as President of his graduating class of the Highland Falls High School class in 1974. He was also an active youth member of St. John AME Zion Church.

Menzo graduated from Clarkson University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired from the State of Connecticut, where he served as a case manager for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Menzo was an avid reader of Robert Ludlum, James Patterson, and other novels; who also enjoyed watching the reality TV show “Gold Rush” while sipping on a cold glass of rootbeer, iced tea, and other delights. Most would describe him as a kind and considerate person who enjoyed his many friendships. He always held his family in his heart and was always willing to do anything and everything asked of him, no matter when or how. He would always tell his family he loved them in words and deed.

His mother, Lillie Ruth Mims, survives, as do his sons, Menzo III of Maryland, and Mitchell of Ohio; as well as his siblings, Varnese Ann Molina, Yolanda Annetta Johnson (Matt), and Yvette Benita Oaddams (Marc); 3 nieces, Laneisha Shannon, Michelle Greaux, goddaughter/niece Brittani Johnson; 3 nephews, Gilberto Molina, Keith Greaux (Alissa), and Malik Johnson; and one special great-niece, Erica Lynn Affronti. Additionally, left to mourn Menzo is his special cousin, Tony Jones; special friend, Dave Staten and a host of cousins and friends. Menzo was predeceased by his father, Menzo Sr., brother/cousin Henry Laster and sister, Cathy Jean Mims.
