Betty Freda Pfeffer

December 8, 1931—September 17, 2022

Formerly of Highland Falls, NY

Betty Freda Pfeffer, formerly of Highland Falls, NY passed away Saturday September 17, 2022 at her home in Huntersville, NC, surrounded by family.

Betty was born at West Point, NY on December 8, 1931 to the late John and Freda Paultnavage.  She married Earl Vernon Pfeffer on December 25, 1947, in Highland Falls, NY.  He predeceased her on December 19, 2012.

She worked over 30 years at Ben Franklin 5 & 10 and as a young girl at the Pickwick Luncheonette, (where she met her beloved husband Earl) both in Highland Falls.  She loved being with all her family and she was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness and was loved and cherished by all in every Congregation due to her loving kindness and humility. She is survived by her 3 children, Ernie Pfeffer (Fran), Susan Maynard, and Brenda Florio.  Grandchildren Gina Phillips (Ken) , Nicole Mueller (Rick), Ray Startup (Karla), Garren, Bryan (Joyce) Maynard, Jennifer and Kimberly Florio, 6 great grandchildren Brittany, Jonah, Kylie, Declan, Brannon, Jaxson, and Derrick Fell.

She was also predeceased by her son-law Paul Florio and her sisters Patricia Treptow and Leona Cote and several nephews and nieces. 

Viewing will be held from 10am-12pm on October 1, 2022 at William F. Hogan Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Highland Falls, NY.  Interment will follow in Eagle Valley Cemetery, Town of Highlands.

George C. Wood

July 25, 1931—September 15, 2022

Fort Montgomery, New York

George C. Wood passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at the New York State Veterans Home at Montrose in Montrose, NY. He was 91 years old.

Son of the late Carlton G. Wood & Agnes T. Ernest Wood, he was born on July 25, 1931 in Jersey City, NJ. He was the widower of Marjorie M. Lopez Wood.

George was a retired Real Estate Officer at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY and is mentioned in the library of Congress seven different times for federal law of real estate between West Point and Washington D.C., protecting historical buildings and accurate  history. He was also a veteran of the United States Army, retiring by the Special Act of the 81st Congress in 1950. He was a former Police Officer for Bear Mountain State Park Police, Town of Highlands Police Department & Village of Highland Falls Police Department; a former Court Officer for the Town of Highlands Court; a member of O’Connor Doyle V.F.W. Post #663 in Highland Falls; a member of the West Point Masonic Lodge 877 F&AM in Highland Falls; and an Ordained Clergy for Universal Life Church.

Survivors include his sons: George L. Wood of Belle Plaine, Iowa and John Wood & his wife Jennifer of Davidson, NC; daughters: Wanda Pool & her husband Wesley of Anniston, Alabama, Loretta Bacon & her husband Stephen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Dora Maher & her husband Bryan of Fort Montgomery, NY; 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and nieces & nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at William F. Hogan Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Highland Falls.  A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church, 353 Main Street, Highland Falls. Interment will follow in Eagle Valley Cemetery in the Town of Highlands, NY.
