Board took action at March 7 meeting

There was no public comment when the Village Board held a public hearing to ban smoking (of anything) in all village parks — Center St., Memorial, Roe and Ladycliff — last week. The new law  was then passed unanimously, and signs will be put in the parks.

— The board approved spending just over $50,000 on tree removal and brush cutting in several locations in the community in the weeks ahead. Work in the area of the new Scenic Hudson Park on Main St. will be done by DeSantis Landscaping and Landwork Contractors will do the work at the Bog Meadow Reservoir.

— A bid was also awarded for $62,500 to replace a bulging wall at the intersection of Cozzens Ave. and South St. ATech received the bid, and the work has already begun.

— In another project coming up, Engineer Todd Atkinson said the village will go out to bid in several weeks on a $125,000 project at the Highland Falls Senior Citizen Center. Using grant funds awarded last fall under the Community Development Block Grant program, drop ceilings, duct work, LED lighting, kitchen cabinets and countertops and windows will be done as part of the project. A patio may also be created behind the building.

— Approved as a member of the Highland Falls Fire Department was Nicholas Jones. as recommended by Chief Steve Suarez. Jones was in attendance and thanked by the mayor for his community service. “I think you are going to be good at the HFFD,” D’Onofrio said.

— Bills and claims in the amount of $137,609 were paid.
