Early voting begins on October 23

Just about a week prior to Highland Falls’ dissolution vote (on Monday, Nov. 8 at the Highland Falls Senior Citizens Center), residents of both Highland Falls and Fort Montgomery will head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 2 to vote on several county and town positions. 

Locations

The November 2 elections will take place in the traditional voting locations — the Fort Montgomery Fire Department (865 Rt. 9W) for Fort Montgomery residents and Holy Innocents Church (401 Main St.) for Highland Falls residents. 

What will be voted on

Supreme Court Justice (choose five): Robert M. Berliner (Dem, Rep, Con); Christie L. D’Alessio (Dem, Con); Thomas R. Davis (Dem, Rep); James L. Hyer (Dem, Con); Thomas Quinones (Dem, Con);  Richard J. Guertin (Rep); James M. Hendry III (Rep); Mark T. Starkman (Rep); Richard J. Guertin (Rep, Con) 

County Executive: Steven M. Neuhaus (Rep, Con)

District Attorney: David M. Hoovler (Rep, Con)

County Clerk (choose one): Kelly A. Eskew (Rep,  Con); Anthony Grice (Dem, Working Families)

District 14 County Legistlator (choose one): Jennifer A. Gargiulo (Rep, Con); Laurie Tautel (Dem, Working Families)

Early voting

All registered voters can vote early, from October 23-31. Any Orange County voter can vote — regardless of where they live — in any of the seven county early voting sites. Those sites are: City of Newburgh Activity Center, 401 Washington St., Newburgh; Cornwall Ambulance Building, 1 Clinton St., Cornwall; Warwick Town Hall, 132 Kings Highway, Warwick; Village of Montgomery Senior Center, 36 Bridge St., Montgomery; Delaware Engine Co. #2, 22 Hammond St., Port Jervis; Monroe Town Hall, 1465 Orange Turnpike, Monroe; Middletown Senior Center, 62-70 W.  Main St., Middletown. 

Early voting hours are the same in all locations. They are: 

Saturday, Oct. 23 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 24 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Monday, Oct. 25 7 a.m.-3 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 26 noon-8 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 27 noon-8 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 28 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 29 7 a.m.- 3 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 30 9 a.m.-2 p.m.


Absentee Ballots

The qualifications to vote by absentee ballot are:

– Absent from Orange County on Election Day.

– Unable to appear at the polls due to temporary or permanent illness or disability (temporary illness includes being unable to appear due to risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19).

– Unable to appear because you are the primary care giver of individuals who are ill or physically disabled.

– A resident or patient of a Veterans Health Administration hospital.

– Detained in jail awaiting Grand Jury action or confined in prison after conviction for an offense other than a felony.

You must apply online, postmark, email or fax a completed application or letter request for the General Election Absentee ballot no later than October 8. You may apply in-person up to the day before the election (November 1).
