Hildegard M. Webster
June 20, 1923—August 24, 2021
Highland Falls, New York
Our beloved mom passed away peacefully on August 24th in her Parry Avenue home, surrounded by her loving family.
Hilde was born in Saalfelden, Austria, on June 20, 1923 to Jakob and Marie (Winkler) Herzog. She joined the Highland Falls community in 1955 and always remarked that she would never want to live anywhere else. However, she did enjoy living in Hawaii for several years while her husband Chuck was the Superintendent of the U.S. Army Golf Course in Fort Shafter. Hilde is fondly remembered by past students at Highland Falls Middle School where she worked as an aide. She never held a driver’s license and loved to walk everywhere in Highland Falls and West Point, but she also had many friends and family who would gladly take her shopping and to her weekly Bingo. A devout Catholic, Hilde attended daily mass at Sacred Heart for many years. The highlight of every summer was her annual trip to Austria where she would be welcomed with open arms.
Hilde was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Webster, her parents, and five siblings. She was the youngest of six children and the only one to survive a terrible outbreak of tuberculosis that claimed the life of her father as well as her five brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her devoted daughters, Inga (Charles) Quaintance, Sonja (Larry) Suko, Virginia (Michael) Grieb, and Marie Webster (Samuel Rodriguez); her grandchildren Lee (Suzanne) Quaintance and Elizabeth Quaintance, Andrea (Mark) Ciarrocchi, and Jeff (Nichole) Suko, Joshua Grieb, Sarah (Andrew) Grosso, Christopher and Zachary (Christina) Grieb. Also left to cherish her memory are her great-grandchildren, Charlie, Catherine, and Henry Quaintance, Elena and Jessica Ciarrocchi, and Chloe and Cruz Suko; several cousins in Austria, and her dearest friend of many years, Martha Rooks.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Vanessa Brown, Mom’s loving, dedicated, and professional caregiver, who eased our burden and provided much comfort to Hilde, and to the visiting nurses of Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties. We would also like to thank our dear family friend, Jeannie Woodruff, for her loving support and care.
Arrangements are by William F. Hogan Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.
A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Highland Falls at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. Interment was at West Point Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties: 800 Stony Brook Court Newburgh, NY 12550 www.hospiceoforange.com
