Charles Thomas Fitzgerald of Voorheesville, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2021, at home, surrounded by his family.
Charles was born at West Point, NY to Elizabeth Skelley and Jesse Fitzgerald and grew up in Highland Falls, NY. He is survived by his wife Jean Fitzgerald of Voorheesville; two daughters, Adrienne Hirt (Arthur) of Ambler, PA, and Audry Connell (Bill) of Cary, NC; as well as his grandchildren, Olivia and Alexander Hirt and Julia and Jeffrey Connell. He is also survived by his sister Margaret McDonald of Highland Falls, NY.
As a young man, Charles served in the Army and was stationed in France. He was thought of by friends and family as a Renaissance man with varied interests and a zest for life. One of his many accomplishments was a remarkable career as an architect, primarily at the NYS Dormitory Authority, during which he had the opportunity to design many unique and important buildings. Later in his career, he focused on commissioning artwork to adorn such buildings. His other interests included art, music, dancing, tennis, golf, fishing, and countless other things. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, making people laugh. Those who were closest to him knew how much he loved life and the people around him. He will never be forgotten.
A small private service was held on Sunday, August 8, 2021, to celebrate his life.
