The Board of Education of the Highland Falls-Fort Montgomery Central School District met on Wednesday evening, and was expected to tend to the following personnel matters:
— Recognize Sarah Tormey as the Garrison Union Free School District Liaison to the board.
— Accept the resignation of Ceili Boles, Fort Montgomery Elementary School teacher, effective July 14.
— Accept the resignation of Ofelia Vithoulkas, Fort Montgomery Elementary School teacher, effective August 27.
— Accept the resignation of O’Neill High School monitor Alexander DiNota, effective July 26.
— Appoint Christina Watson as a full-time elementary teacher at a salary of $62,760, filling the vacancy left by Boles.
— Appoint Megan Stacklum as a full-time elementary teacher at a salary of $61,525, filling the vacancy left by Vithoulkas.
— Appoint Ryan Monaco as a full-time special education generalist teacher, at a salary of $62,760, filling the vacancy left by the resignation of David Yacoub.
— Appoint Alexandra Hansen as a full-time elementary teacher, assigned to teach AIS mathematics, at a salary of $70,532. She fills a position created at the board meeting held on July 8.
— Approve an unpaid leave of absence for Thomas Kastner, part-time custodial worker at O’Neill High School, from August 9-31, or until he is medically cleared to return.
— Appoint Kendall Smith as a leave replacement elementary teacher during FMES teacher Emily Vali’s leave of absence, August 30, 2021 -June 30, 2022, with a salary of $58,108.
— Appoint Samantha Veltri as a full-time secondary mathematics teacher, with a salary of $54,634. She fills one of the two positions created at the board meeting held on July 8.
— Appoint Nancy Santini as a full-time teacher aide at a salary of $23,690.
The board also was expected to appoint several dozen substitute teachers, custodians and nurses; and appoint extra curricular advisors.
The meeting was held in person in the O’Neill High School auditorium.
The board will meet two more times before school resumes on September 1. Just one of those is a public meeting, on Thursday, Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m., in the O’Neill High School auditorium.
Next week, on Aug. 11, the members of the board will meet for a private ‘board retreat’ in the O’Neill Library.
The day after school starts, Thursday, Sept. 2, the board meets again in public session, at 6:45 p.m. in the O’Neill High School auditorium. That meeting begins at 6 p.m. with a tour of the Fort Montgomery Elementary School.
