Anna C. Monahan

Anna C. Monahan, 96, of Midline Road, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Thursday morning, May 6, 2021 at home after a brief illness.
Born in Manhattan, NY January 27, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Minnie Reid Mullin.
Anna received her education and graduated from within the New York City public school system.
She was an avid reader and volunteer at William B. Tecler Elementary School for several years. As an Army wife, she and her three children lived in Bangkok, Thailand for two years. She was employed as Manager at The Gift Shop at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. She was Hostess in charge of the main dining room, ballroom, and the Terrace at The Hotel Thayer on the campus of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Anna was united in marriage to Joseph W. Monahan October 27, 1944 and was predeceased by Joseph August 27, 1983. She was also predeceased by her son, Kevin Monahan and great grandson, Michael Chiavaras, four brothers and two sisters.
Anna is survived by one daughter, Anne Douglas (Richard) of Amsterdam, and one son, Joseph M. Monahan (Gail) of Loudon, NH; daughter-in-law, Janet Monahan of Croton, NY; one sister, Patricia Rufo of Long Island, NY; seven grandchildren, Richard Douglas Jr. (Melissa), Elizabeth Hart (Frank), Heather Chiavaras (James), Joseph Monahan (Nicole), Michelle Harvell (Thomas) Sean Monahan (Jacqueline) and Brendan Monahan; ten great grandchildren, Alex and Andrew Chiavaras, Cameron and Madison Monahan, Kendall Harvell, Ryan Douglas, Brenna and Brady Hart and Kevin and Charlotte Monahan. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, May 11, 2021 at 8:15 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, followed at 9:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam with Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche, M.S. officiating.
Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, 93 Union Ave., in New Windsor, NY.
Calling hours were held Monday May 10, 2021 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary, Inc.
