The Bog Meadow Reservoir is now at 68 percent capacity, Highland Falls Mayor Joe D’Onofrio said this week, noting “we’re in good shape”.
“It filled up more quickly than we thought it would, once we had some good autumn rains,” he added. “We’re out of the woods now, but I don’t ever want to go back there. We (the Village Board) will keep working to improve our system.”
With that he noted that three significant leaks at private village properties had been repaired, and a leaking valve at the Water Plant had been replaced.
Officially, the Drought Alert declaration that the village had been operating under was lifted on Nov. 30.
Also with regard to water, D’Onofrio said village officials are currently working to obtain a list of chemicals that are used to maintain the West Point Golf Course, to make sure that there are no potential contaminants to the village’s water system. As well, he said in a letter to West Point Garrison Commander Col. Evangeline Rosel dated Dec. 2, village officials would like to know if there are any potential contaminants heading toward the village water system with the construction of the new Golf Clubhouse.
