Maude F. Bates

Highland Falls
Maude F. Bates passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020, at the Kaplan Family Residence for Hospice Care in Newburgh. She was 97 years old.
The daughter of the late Maude Lewis and George O’Dell, she was born on November 14, 1922. Maude was a homemaker, and a lifelong resident of Highland Falls. She was an active member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her son Nelson T. Bates and his wife Sally of Highland Falls, and her son Joel A. Bates and his companion Nancy, also of Highland Falls. Also surviving are four grandchildren – John A. Bates and his companion Dana, Joel C. Bates and his wife Lisa, Sandra Nolker, and Christopher Drew; nine great-grandchildren – John Bates, Jr., Rebecca Cicione, Brandan Bates, Christopher Bates, Andrew Bates, Jessica O’Connell, Samantha Bates, Amy Nolker, and Evan Drew; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Maude was pre-deceased by her husband Nelson Bates, daughter Lyla Bates, brother George O’Dell, sister Mary Church, and great-grandchild Suzette Ginther.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020 from 5-8 p.m. at William F. Hogan Funeral Home, 135 Main St., Highland Falls, NY 10928. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, 2020, followed by interment at Peacedale Cemetery in Highland Falls.

Agnes M. Kilb
June 8, 1932 – October 30, 2020
formerly of Highland Falls
Agnes Kilb passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital in Lebanon, Tenn. She was 88 years old.
Daughter of the late Charles and Frieda (Hey) Wienberg, she was born on June 8, 1932 in Manhattan. Agnes lived in Nanuet, then moved to Deposit, when she and her husband Walter Kilb both retired. They later moved to Highland Falls to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren.
Agnes made many wonderful friends in Highland Falls and spent a lot of her time with them. She loved having lunch at Andy’s Restaurant, and playing Mahjongg with everyone at the library. Her favorite time of the week was the ladies luncheon each Friday with all of her friends. She was a member of the Highlanders Senior Citizen group and served as corresponding secretary.
She recently moved to Wilson Manor in Lebanon, Tenn. when her daughter and son-in-law relocated to Nashville. She loved her new extended family and friends and thrived in her new home.
Agnes will be missed by many and loved so many more. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Fran and Jerry Galu, Jr. of Nashville; grandson James Galu III and wife Olivia of Fishkill; daughter-in-law Andrea Sciarrino; grandsons William Monahan, James Monahan and wife Mary; granddaughter Kathryn Boxman and husband Kyle; three great-grandchildren and a large loving extended family. Agnes is also survived by loving nephews Edward (Bernadette) Wienberg, Charles (Ellen) Wienberg and Mark (Christine) Wienberg.
Agnes was predeceased by her parents, husband Walter Kilb, son William Monahan, step-son Walter “Chuck” Kilb, and brother Charles Wienberg.
Interment will be at the convenience of her family in Highland Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Highland Falls Library, 298 Main St., Highland Falls, NY 10928.

Daisy Ellen Lanier
September 5, 1932 – October 27, 2020
Cherished Daughter: born to the late Lucy and Louis Lanier on September 5, 1932 in Jones, Alabama.
Southern Belle: reared in Dallas County, Alabama, as a young woman she moved to New York where she joined her mother and siblings.
Woman of God: as a lifetime member of Saint Mark’s Baptist Church, Highland Falls, New York, Daisy committed to missionary work, served as president of the usher board, sang joyfully on the choir and was a compassionate nursery attendant.
Hudson Valley Nanny and Child Development Specialist: loved children and so she was always caring for the children of family members, dear friends and neighbors while they worked, played, worshiped or convalesced.
Nurturing Mother: honored, humbled and most devoted childcare assignment was to be mother of her pride and joy, her son Tyree Lanier, Sr., and grandmother to her grandson, Tyree Lanier II aka “TJ.”
Homemaker: took on her duties as homemaker with precision and diligence as even a military inspector would leave with their glove still white.
Seamstress: enjoyed sewing, especially dresses that she would adorn daily or on the grandest of occasions. Daisy also enjoyed making originally designed clothing, pillows, quilts and other personal items for her specials.
Beloved Sister and Daughter: in a loving family of 14, in keeping with the family norm Daisy supported her family in every way she knew how. She could always be found at family gatherings smiling and rendering her infectious laugh while reminiscing about the wonderful days gone by.
Caregiver of Family and Friends: Daisy cared for her mother, as well as her family and friends whenever needed with love to preserve their dignity and respect.
Angel: God called Daisy Ellen Lanier home on October 27, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters: Evelyn, Julia, Lela and Ruby; and her brothers: Eddie Louis, Frank, George, James and Thurman. She is survived by her son, Tyree Lanier, Sr; grandson, Tyree Lanier II; sister, Adelle Barry and brothers, Matthew Lanier (Bertha), Rayfield Lanier and Willie Lanier (Lucinda), as well as a host of adoring nieces and nephews.
She is already missed and honored for her service and a life well lived.

Gloria desRosiers-Staten
December 7, 1954 – October 23, 2020

Gloria J. des Rosiers-Staten passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. She was 65 years old.
Daughter of the late Gloria J. DeVitto and Noel F. des Rosiers, she was born on December 7, 1954.
Gloria was a registered nurse at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers, NY. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Highland Falls, and she was a lifetime member of the original Wowsville Gang. Gloria belonged to several nursing organizations; nursing and family were her whole life.
Gloria is survived by her husband David E. Staten, Sr. at home; one brother, William G. desRosiers of Highland Falls; one sister, Lani E. des Rosiers of Greensboro, NC; her aunts, Diana Yoder of Florida and Terri Shrader of Pennsylvania; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her daughter Jennifer N. Staten, and her mother Florence E. desRosiers.
Visitation and funeral services were held at the William F. Hogan Funeral Home, Highland Falls, on November 3. Burial of cremains took place at Peacedale Cemetery in Highland Falls on November 4.
