Barbara Jean Carter

June 1, 1934 -June 23, 2020

Highland Falls

Barbara Jean Carter of Highland Falls, passed from this life on June 23, 2020, peacefully at home surrounded by her children after a short illness.

She was born in Washington, DC on June 1, 1934 to the late Joseph R. Williams and Lucille Owens Williams. Early on, she moved to West Point with her mother where she attended the schools there. They moved into Highland Falls; after graduating from Highland Falls High School, Barbara worked at Letchworth Village as a mental hygiene physical therapist, where she retired after many years.

Barbara was a member of St. John AME Zion Church for over 60 years. In 2002 she became the First Lady after her husband, the late Rev. Dr. Moses Carter Sr. was appointed as minister.

She is survived by her children: Moses Carter, Jr. (Kristen) of Highland Falls, Michelle D. Finklea (Gus) of Goodyear, Ariz. and Wanda D. Harris of Middleburg, Fla. She was blessed to have and be survived by her adopted brother and sister, Davis Robinson Jr. (Stacey) of San Diego, Calif. and Mary Miller of Highland Falls, and faithful friend, Tina Graham of Highland Falls. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law: Rev. Grace Hicks, Alyce Gipson and Maggie Dean, all of Baltimore, Md., Martha Gakou (Moustapha) of Newburgh, Fred Puryear (Mildred) of Catonsville, Md. and Walter Puryear Jr. of Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her loving and doting husband, Rev. Dr. Moses Carter, Sr.; adopted sister Anniebelle West; son-in-law Ronnie Harris; grandson Gus T. Finklea and great-granddaughter Brijae Harris.

Funeral services were held at St. John AME Zion Church, on July 11. Interment took place July 13 at Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Professional services entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Homes, 259 Walsh Ave., New Windsor.

Mary DiSalvo

November 11, 1926 – July 7, 2020

formerly of Highland Falls

Mary DiSalvo, 93, of Lakeland, passed away July 7, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ono-frio DiSalvo. Born Nov. 11, 1926, in Bag-heria, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Josephine Ducato.

She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, in St. Petersburg, Florida and was retired as a seamstress from the U.S. Military Academy Tailor Shop, at West Point.

She is survived by her son, Frank (Diane) DiSalvo, Michael DiSalvo, and Thomas DiSalvo, seven grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Theresa J. Favre

September 3, 1951 – July 8, 2020

Theresa J. Favre, “Omi”, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at her home in Fort Montgomery. She was 68 years old.

The daughter of Lucie D. Hering and the late Charles R. O’Connor, she was born on September 3, 1951, in Mannheim, Germany.

Terry spent 20-plus years working for the Highland Falls Central School District in Highland Falls. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Highland Falls. In September 1970, Terry married LeRoy, the love of her life. They raised three beautiful children and shared a lifetime of happy memories. Through their passion for motor home traveling and the many friends they made along the way, their life together was complete. Terry’s love for her family and friends was reflected in everything she did and her beautiful memory will live on through them and all who loved her.

Survivors include her loving husband LeRoy “Lee” Favre, Jr., at home; her mother Lucie O’Connor of Highland Falls; her children – Erik Favre and his wife Kelly of Fort Montgomery, Erin Phelan and her husband Brian of New Hartford, Conn., and Alison Paruolo and her husband Michael, of Fort Montgomery; her sister Doris Deutsch and her husband Alfred of Savannah, Ga.; her grandchildren – Madison, Julie, Edward, Karlee, Kensey, Emerson and Easton; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Guy V. Hudson

March 19, 1953 -July 4, 2020

Guy V. Hudson, 67, of Port Richey, Fla. passed away July 4, 2020.

Guy was a former divisional vice president and general manager for Hecht’s Department Stores and Macy’s Department Stores. He was a graduate of the State University of New York and a former resident of Highland Falls, Raleigh, NC, Sanford, Fla., and Savannah, Ga.

He is survived by his wife Deborah Lunsford Hudson; daughter Tiffany Hudson of Raleigh, NC; step-sons James Adam Hodges of Savanah, Ga and Angus DoRane Godwin and wife Pamela of Columbia, SC; granddaughter Riley Marie White; brother Mark Hudson and wife Amanda of New Port Richey, Fla.; sisters Charlene Redfield and husband Richard of Clearwater, Fla., Gay Seward and husband Stan of Palm Bay, Fla. and Gloria Hudson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; as well as two nephews, Kyle Seward and Raymond Higham.

A gathering of family only and celebration of life was held at the Dobies Funeral Home, New Port Richey, Fla. on Wednesday July 8. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Raymond A. Nielsen, Jr.

November 30, 1995 – June 21, 2020

Raymond A. Nielsen, Jr., 24, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 21, 2020 at home. He was born November 30, 1995, in Warwick. He graduated high school and worked at Bear Mountain.

He is survived by his mother JoAnn Davis Nielsen and predeceased by his father Raymond A. Nielsen, Sr., on April 3, 2020.

He also has a beautiful daughter, Audrey A. Nielsen, with the mother Mimi Peres; his sister Courtney N. Nielsen, and nephews Jayden & Jiovanni. On his mother’s side he is survived by his grandmother Mary Davis (Mickey); predeceased grandfather Joseph Davis (Huc), Aunt Debbie, Uncle Lee Ransom, Aunt Dawn, Uncle Jimmy Davis Rufasto, Uncle Joe, Aunt Diana Davis, Uncle Jim, Aunt Sonia Davis and several cousins, all in Florida.

Survivors on his father’s side include grandparents Barbara and John Forzynski, Uncle Carl in Arizona, Uncle David in Middletown, Aunt Tina and Mike Tamok and cousins in Middletown.

Services took place Thursday July, 16, 2020 at William F.Hogan Funeral Home in Highland Falls.

Donald P. Sagaria

April 26, 1943 -April 11, 2020

Acton, Mass.

Donald P. Sagaria of Acton, MA, and formerly Pearl River, passed away on April 11, 2020 at the age of 76 after a brief hospitalization for COVID19.

Donald was born to James and Isabella (Martucci) Sagaria on April 26, 1943 in New York City. After graduating Fordham University in 1968 and a brief first marriage, he began work at the Biltmore Hotel where he met Joyce Lemanski whom he married in 1972.

Don lived the next 47 years in Pearl River, where he was a respected member of the community, working for a period as the manager of the Thayer Hotel. He moved to Acton in July 2019 to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.

Don’s career as a hotel owner and operator, and his love for travel took him all over the world. A generous and gregarious man, he will be remembered for the stories and jokes he told, the life lessons he imparted, the parties he threw, the songs he sang and his encyclopedic knowledge of the Yankees.

Don is survived by his daughter Dawn, her husband Mark, and his beloved granddaughters Kathryn and Lauren. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Marie.

According to his wishes Don will be cremated. When circumstances allow, he will be interred alongside his wife Joyce at Rosehill Memorial Park in Putnam Valley. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.

The family is grateful for the condolences, but declines flowers and donations.
