New banner program for Chamber

“They all need to be honored.”

The Highlands Chamber of Commerce is hoping to honor local first responders this coming summer with a new twist on its military appreciation banner program.

“We are happy to announce for this year an addition to our annual banner program,” Chamber President Jim Modlin said Monday, “a COVID-19 first responder tribute banner program.”

He and program organizer Kat Dagaev said that similar to the military banners, the first responder banners will provide sponsors an opportunity “to honor those heroic first responders (healthcare professionals, EMT, ambulance, fire, police, etc.) who are protecting us in our war against the COVID-19 coronavirus”.

Both sets of banners will fly along Main St. and Rt. 9W this coming summer and fall. About 30 new military banners had already been sold for 2020 when the pandemic hit the U.S.

Information on the new banners — and the military ones — is available on the Chamber of Commerce website, www.highlandschamberofcommerce.com.

The price is $150 per banner and proceeds from the first responder banners will go to first responder organizations.

“We are very proud to offer this special tribute to our first responder friends and loved ones as a small way to say ‘thank you’ for what they are doing and the sacrifices they are making to keep us all safe,” they said.

Banners should be ordered by May 31. Those who have questions can call Dagaev at 845-520-0137.
