Cancellations, closures and postponements

What’s still happening? What isn’t happening? Things are changing rapidly in the Town of Highlands, due to requirements set by the state regarding how many people can gather together, as well as simple ‘social distancing’ decisions.

While the list is ever-changing, here’s a rundown of some of this week’s cancellations and postponements. 

Highland Falls Library: The Library will be closed through March 31. There will be no fines charged on any materials that were checked out prior to the closure. 

People Who Make a Difference: This annual Hudson Valley Women’s Association & Friends breakfast, that was scheduled for Saturday, April 4, has been rescheduled to Saturday, Sept. 19. 

West Point Band:  The following performances have been cancelled for the safety and health of our patrons: Saturday, March 21, ‘Serenade for Winds’ at the Cadet Chapel; Saturday, March 28, ‘Hindemith, Barfield, and Ticheli’ at SUNY New Paltz; and Sunday, April 5, ‘Variations on America’  at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, NJ.

Wintermarket: The community’s Saturday indoor farmers market has postponed all future dates until ‘social distancing’ suggestions have been lifted. 

Trivia Night: The Highland Falls Fire Department Auxiliary’s Trivia Night, scheduled for March 20, has been cancelled and will be rescheduled on a later date.

Pancake Breakfast: The Highland Falls Fire Department’s Spring Pancake Breakfast  (planned for April 5) has been cancelled.

Zoning Board of Appeals: The consolidated Zoning Board meeting that was set for Wednesday, March 18 has been postponed until at least Wednesday, April 15. 

DMV: State-wide DMVs will now go to appointments only until further notice. The following services will be available by appointment only: Commercial Driver license Permit; license renewal that will expire within the month; no original or upgrade to Real Id/ EDL until further notice; renewing a registration  expiring with the month.

New York State Parks: Parks are open. All fees have been waived at local, county and state parks. 

West Point Bowling Center: The bowling alley is closed  for all bowling operations until further notice.

Planning Board: The March 19 meeting of the Consolidated Planning Board was canceled and the Public Hearing planned was adjourned until April 16 or later.
