Coffee, cupcakes & music

O’Neill had first ‘Coffee House’ last week

O’Neill High School’s Newspaper club, with the help of the Literary Magazine club, hosted the first JIO Coffee House on Friday, Jan. 10.

Students socialized while drinking coffee and indulging in gourmet cupcakes and cookies as JIO musicians showcased their talents.  Master of Ceremony Buddy Wilson introduced the first act, Justus Crow, who entertained with the soothing sound of the saxophone, followed by Paul Podias who rocked Billy Joel and Elton John.

Things then changed up with Jacqueline Evangelista who dazzled the crowd with some broadway tunes, followed by Victor Cadet who played keyboard, who sang a few songs, and got the crowd going with Lean on Me.  Evan Owen sang his heart out, and the last two performances were by Claire Kobylski and Evelyn Sorenson who mesmerized the audience with their beautiful voices.

The event was a hit, and many students were overheard saying, “We should do this more often!”

The night went off without a hitch thanks to Evelyn Sorenson, an O’Neill sophomore, who did an impeccable job organizing the event with the help of Buddy Wilson, Ana Franco, and Evan Owen as well as newspaper and literary magazine club members who set up and cleaned up afterward.  A special thanks to teachers who helped the students with the event especially Tom Cunane, Marie Michaud and Phil Yosso.

The evening was fun and relaxing, and the Newspaper club raised over $200.
