Rita A. Martino passed away on Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Valley View Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Goshen. She was 86 years old.
Daughter of the late Pasquale and Maria Papa Pesce, she was born in the Bronx, on May 22, 1933.
Rita was a talented crafter of floral arrangements and crocheted baby blankets that the family treasures.
Survivors include her children, daughter Ann Marie Zzie and husband Alan of Highland Falls, and son Christopher Martino of Warren, NJ; her brothers, Pasquale Pesce and wife Jenny of California, and Thomas Pesce and wife Carolyn of Garden Grove, Calif.; and her sister Lucia Bova and husband Mike of Winchester, Calif. Rita is also survived by four grandchildren, Angela and husband Chris, Allison, Alex, and Nicholas; two great-grandchildren, Stella Rose and Clara Isabelle, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph M. Martino, and daughter-in-law Helen.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 20 at Sacred Heart Church, 353 Main St., Highland Falls.

Emily A. Arkenbout

Meriden, Conn.
Emily A. Arkenbout passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10 at her home in Meriden, Conn. She was 92 years old.
Daughter of the late John and Eva Aiewsky Schock, she was born June 2, 1927, in Wallington, N.J. Emily was a homemaker and devoted her life to being a loving mother. She was an avid cook and enjoyed archeology.
Survivors include her sons, Douglas Arkenbout of Snoqualmie, Wash., Steven Arkenbout and wife Marsha Kay of Wallingford, Conn., and Jacob Arkenbout of Meriden, Conn.; her daughters, Geraldine Meyer and husband George of Mt. Vernon, Wash., Lillian Bradbury and husband Larry of Highland Falls, and Elaine LaBarre and husband Ron of Highland Falls; along with seven grandchildren – Erik, Clinton, Cecelia, Joshua, Correna, Danielle and John, three great-grandchildren – Alanna, Cole, and Hannah; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Gerald, her son David Arkenbout, her brother John, and sisters Anna, Jean, Mary, Dorothy and Rose.
A graveside service and interment was held on Monday, Dec. 16 at Eagle Valley Cemetery, Town of Highlands.
