If you live alone and don’t want to cook a big meal on Thanksgiving; if there are just two or three of you and you don’t have the time or money to do the big turkey meal; or even if there are a tableful of people joining you for the holiday and you’d rather share the special day with many others, consider heading to the Church of the Holy Innocents, 401 Main Street, on Thursday, Nov. 28, for dinner.
The annual free Thanksgiving Community Dinner with all the trimmings will begin to be served promptly at 1 p.m. that day and all are invited!
The meal is being prepared by a team of two people, and they’re looking for volunteers to help them.
The Rev. Judy Ferguson and Brenda Gallardo are coordinating the dinner.
Ferguson is doing all the pre-dinner legwork and will oversee the kitchen and dining room on Thanksgiving Day; and Gallardo is in charge of the Wednesday night prep-work as well as helping delivery coordinator, Ann Molina, on Thursday morning.
The dinner is open to seniors, families, those on duty at emergency service and other jobs, soldiers, those who have no family close to celebrate with, and absolutely anyone else who wants to be part of the joy and celebration.
It will feature the typical Thanksgiving meal — turkey, stuffing, potatoes and other vegetables, desserts and more.
In addition to the eat-in meals starting at 1 p.m., take-outs and deliveries are also available, beginning at 11:30 a.m. If you need meals delivered or you’re coming to the ‘eat-in’ dinner please call Rev. Ferguson at 446-2197.
This is the 21st year of the community dinner. In years past they have fed as many as 350 people on Thanksgiving Day, but every year is a little different, Ferguson said.
If you’d like to volunteer to help with prep work or on Thanksgiving day, or would like to contribute food or money for the dinner, please contact Rev. Ferguson at 446-2197.
