Dorothy G. Farrar

February 2, 1934 – September 14, 2019

Dorothy Genau Farrar, 85, was born and raised in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The middle child and only daughter of Frederick A. and M. Vir-ginia Genau, she is survived by her brother, Frederick Squires Genau, and predeceased by her brother, John (Jack) Bowen Genau.

Dorothy was the mother of four children and is survived by her sons, John Henderson Farrar III and Frederick Lyon Farrar, and daughter, Virginia Lee Rivenbark. Her son, Douglas Patch Farrar, precedes her in death, and she will rest alongside him at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Dorothy had a passion for her family and those in need of a home. Following her first career as an Army wife, she worked and raised her family in Highland Falls. While working as an administrative assistant at the U.S. Military Academy, Dorothy opened her home and heart to numerous cadets and friends.

After retiring from civil service, Dorothy moved to Albuquerque. Her life was her family and friends, with her later years dedicated to being a grandmother. Her grandchildren include: Magen Rice Farrar-Onak, Douglas Coan Rivenbark, Elizabeth Lyon Rivenbark, John Summerville Farrar, Leah Summerville Farrar, Emily Summerville Farrar, and Olivia Summerville Farrar.

Dorothy faced death the same way she faced life – with tenacity and on her own terms. She took her final journey home after fighting heart disease for the last seven years.

Family, friends and others are invited to celebrate her life. Services in New Mexico were held on Sept. 24; and services in Maryland will be held on Sept. 28 with a viewing starting at noon at Pumphrey Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, Md., followed by burial services at 2:30 p.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, Md. James H. Wallace

February 5, 1930 – September 13, 2019

Fort Montgomery

James H. Wallace, 89, a lifelong resident of Highland Falls and Fort Montgomery, passed away Sept. 13 at Orange Regional Medical Center.

Son of the late James and Mildred Bock Wallace, he was born Feb. 5, 1930 in Highland Falls.

Jimmy graduated from Highland Falls High School where he was a standout athlete and attended Ithaca College until his call to service as a Navy corpsman from 1950-1954. He attended Athletic Training School in Kissimmee, Fla. and upon graduation turned down job offers with Dartmouth and the New York Yankees to work as an athletic trainer for the U.S. Military Academy. He retired after 38 years, having served under many football and basketball legends. His joy in life was his family and countless friends, who were always considered family. He was an avid sports fan, a lifelong member of the Church of the Holy Innocents, a board member of the Fort Montgomery Battle Site Association and a member of the Town of Highlands Historical Society.

Jimmy was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Georgia “Sissy” Wallace, brother Ronald Wallace and sisters Dorothy Cooper and Joan Sakmann.

He is survived by his three children – Kim Kort and husband Ronald of Highland Falls, Kelly Stang and husband Douglas of Altamont, and Scott Wallace and daughter-in-law Laurie Wallace of Smithtown; six beloved grandchildren – Katelyn Wilson and husband Bryan, Meghan Kort and fiancé Paul Malecot, Andrew and Lucas Stang, Sara and Emily Wallace; two cherished great-grandchildren – Jackson and Brayden Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday Sept. 27 at Eagle Valley Cemetery in Highland Falls.
