Mayor Joe D’Onofrio took a few minutes at the start of last week’s Village Board meeting to thank residents who made the community look great over the July 4th weekend, and who organized the July 4 festivities.
“These are people who, despite their other commitments, took time to help their community,” D’Onofrio, who chairs the Fourth of July Committee, said. “They need to be recognized and I wish I had more than the words ‘thank you’ to give them.”
About the committee, he continued: “At about five or six weeks out, it was touch or go. We had already scaled back because of a lack of funds and a lack of volunteers, but it came together because these people stepped up.”
And about his Department of Public Works crew, the mayor said that the village “looks as good as it does every day, but particularly over the holiday because of you guys”. He noted that after the holiday was done, they then spent a great deal of time “cleaning up”.
On the Fourth of July Committee were: Kathy Jones, Carrie Richardson, Melissa Nolan, Ali Dunn, Cathy Beach, Jim Ramus, Jeannette Scott, Jim DiSalvo, Debbie Jersey, George Fallon, Maria Pelella and Tim and Ina Meakim.
Recognized from the DPW were: Brent Kuiken, John Jones, Dan Stalter, John Walter, Cody Jados, Mike Jones, Tim Green and Kevin Barnes.
“The Fourth of July is our signature event,” D’Onofrio said. “And I’ll just put it out there right now, the first meeting for 2020 will take place on February 1st.”
