Chamber hosts Saturday event

Military banners, new logo will debut

Highlands Chamber of Commerce members will be proudly watching in the weeks ahead as some 72 Military Appreciation banners are hung from utility poles in Highland Falls and Fort Montgomery.

They’ll also soon be on the lookout for their organization’s new logo to appear around the community.

This is the second year of the banner project — 63 new banners have been purchased, and because the brackets from last year are already there, nine banners from last year are being rehung along Main St. and Rt. 9W. The 2’x4′ banners pay tribute to veterans, to active duty military, to community residents, to living and deceased persons, and to long ago relatives.

An outdoor ceremony (weather permitting) where the new banner design will be unveiled will take place this Saturday, May 18, at 1:30 p.m. at The Center, 274 Main St.

Those who purchased banners have been invited, but all community residents, last year’s banner purchasers and recipients, and others are invited. Those participating are invited to stay for cake and coffee to follow in The Center.

On that cake will be the new Chamber of Commerce logo, Dagaev said, as designed by Matt Solari, manager of Bear Mountain Bakery.

The new logo will be featured in all future Chamber advertising, and is also included on a new Town of Highlands tourist map and brochure, as designed by Jay LeRoy art & design.

A large version of the map will be hung at the West Point Visitors Center. The brochures will be available there, as well as at local businesses/hotels/motels.

“The brochure will also make it easy to access our website with the inclusion of a QR code linking to our website,” Dageav said.

Businesses, organizations and individuals wishing to join the Chamber can get information at Saturday’s event, or visit www.highlandschamberofcommerce.com.
