O’Neill High School junior Rex Young was among the participants at the Spring 2019 Frances Hesselbein Student Leadership program, established by the Military Child Education Coalition. The conference was March 10-15 at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
Ten students attending were from Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington. They are all active in the Student 2 Student (S2S) program at their high schools. The S2S goal is 100 percent acceptance of new students as they transition in and out of their new school. Designed with the military child in mind, the program has grown to include all transitioning students.
S2S is based on five core values: leadership, academics, service, finding the way, and relationships.
“Rex is committed to return to his high school with his newly acquired skills to improve his O’Neill’s S2S program,” according to the press release announcing his participation. “He will spend the week talking with influential leaders, sharing ideas and challenges of their local program, and participating in team building activities led by Air Force Academy cadets. This is a great honor for the Highland Falls community and school district.”
