Several additional components to this year’s March Mania event have been announced in the past week.
March Mania is a two-weekend basketball tournament/community event sponsored by The Center and the Town of Highlands Recreation. It will take place March 8 & 9 and 15 & 16.
The basic tournament is for fifth through eighth graders. Cost is $20 per child.
But, Recreation Director Aaron Falk has announced this week, there will also be:
— Showcase games featuring the Town of Highlands Police Department (“we are actively seeking ringers,” THPD Chief Frank Pierri said at Monday’s Town Board meeting) vs. the Highland Falls Police Department and the Fort Montgomery Fire Department vs. the Highland Falls Fire Department.
— A youth cheerleading component, led by East Stroudsburg University (and former O’Neill, Highland Falls Intermediate School, JBK and Highland Falls Explosion) cheerleader Hannah Pitt.
— A free basketball skills clinic run by Bobby Dunn and other volunteers on Friday, Feb. 22 for anyone who is registered for the tournament.
