WASHINGTONVILLE — Assemblyman Colin Schmitt honored the inaugural 99th Assembly District Students of Achievement recently; among them was Carl Tyce from O’Neill High School.

Tyce and one student from each of the district’s other high schools were honored.

“I want to applaud the inaugural set of students we are honoring. Our Assembly District has some amazing students that not only work hard in the classroom but also make positive contributions to the community as a whole,” Schmitt said. “These young men and women have a very impressive set of credentials and accolades already and I cannot wait to see what more they contribute to society as the years go on.”

About Tyce, the valedictorian of O’Neill’s graduating class, Schmitt said: “Carl has been described as a model student and extremely bright and hard-working. He has helped organize and esteem-building workshop at the intermediate school. Carl is currently his school’s 800m and 4x800m record holder, as well as a Tenor II section leader in the Men’s choir. He is a member of National Honor Society, on the Academic League team, and president of O’Neill’s tech crew. Carl co-created a local park clean-up and a leadership day at the local intermediate school, taught Sunday School at his church, and worked at the library during summers, as well as at the Depot Theater as a lighting and sound assistant. Carl is continuing his education this fall at DeSales University.”

He continued: “Carl is a natural leader and he uses his skills to help others. I am proud of his involvement in his school and community.”

Tyce said: “I am very grateful and honored to be receiving this award from Assemblyman Colin Schmitt, especially since it is the first year it is being presented. I am also humbled by my school’s decision to nominate me for this award. It is an awesome way to end my high school career.”
